FACES OF COACH: Meet Meg, our new HIIT coach!

How did you hear about FAT?

I originally heard about FAT yearsss ago through my friend who worked at Lululemon and came along.

Describe yourself in 3 words :) ?

Loud, excited, driven.

What is your Health and Fitness background?

I have always been a relatively sporty person growing up and dabbled in a few different things! Mainly, I played netball and also was (and still am) a surf lifeguard at Ocean Beach/Whangarei heads. I have always enjoyed exercise that is outdoors - especially in or near the ocean.

I studied my PT course when I was still living in my hometown Whāngarei, then once I was qualified I moved into group fitness coaching immediately, which is where my passion for fitness coaching lies.

What are your top 3 pieces of advice to build a Healthy routine?

  • Consistency. Once ‘healthy habits’ are a part of your routine, it feels more odd to break the habits than stick to them.
  • Small steps. Don’t try to change too many factors in your lifestyle at once. Change one small thing, then once it's a regular habit, move on to the next.
  • Don’t sweat it. Too much pressure and stress inhibits change. Your life goes through so many stages, so just do the best you can and roll with it.

Do you have any 2024 fitness/lifestyle goals?

  • Maraetai Triathlon! November 10th eeek. My first triathlon.
  • I also hiked to Base Camp, Mt Everest in Feb this year so that’s a goal completed!

What is your favourite and worst exercise?

  • Fav exercise: Box jumps
  • Worst exercise: Switch climbers

Which advice would you give to a FAT first timer?

Keep smiling! It’ll be tough but just go at your own pace. Complain with the person next to you - trust me, they’ll be finding it tough too and it’s nice to know you’re in it together.

What do you want to learn in 2024?

For the remainder of this year I want to learn how to slow down and to relish my time with my friends/family/community. In person, real life, human connection is so good and it really fills my cup.
