FACES OF CORPO: Meet Harriet from TEAK

What is your role within the TEAK Team?

I am the Business Development Manager for Teak.

How did your company hear about FAT? What has been your / your teams’ experience with FAT so far?

I walked past a FAT class on my way to a meeting and thought ‘we should definitely do that!’, and it has been a fantastic experience. Our crew really look forward to the FAT workout each week, it has been a great way to let off some of the steam from a hectic work day.

What advice would you give other companies thinking of getting FAT on board?

Do it! Don’t hesitate! Kevin has been great at adapting the workouts for all ability levels, ensuring we all enjoy the experience.

What else does your employee wellness program involve?

Our employee wellness programme involves both physical, mental health and emotional health initiatives.  We sponsor team members to participate in running events such as the Auckland Marathon and Round the Bays, also our weekly FAT workout. We sponsor counselling sessions for all employees, participate in Pink Shirt Day for anti bullying, Gumboot Friday for Mental Health and Mates in Construction suicide prevention. We also organise regular socal outings such as comedy shows, golf days and sporting events at the likes of Eden Park.

In your ideal world, what does wellness in the workplace look like?

In my ideal world, wellness in the workplace means prioritising ergonomic workspaces, mental health support, fostering social and professional well-being through team-building activities, career development, fair compensation, and a safe, inclusive environment.

If you could highlight three main benefits you and your colleagues get from your FAT sessions, what would they be?

  • We are fitter, healthier and better!
  • Allows us to let off some steam from the day.
  • it has fostered a sense of camaraderie (‘esprit de corps’ as Kevin would say)
