- Can you tell a little bit about yourself?
Hi! I’m Richard - I’m from Cardiff (Wales) and I moved to Auckland about this time last year (Oct 23). I’m a structural engineer - lots of NZ’s bridges got washed away or were damaged during the cyclone last year so there was an opportunity for me to come across for work.
I enjoy travel, sport, live music and encouraging Kiwi’s to put their compostable coffee cups in the right bin (a hint - it’s not the one for landfill!).
- How did you hear about FAT, do you remember your first session?
FAT was one of the things that was recommended to me when I arrived last year - I did a Road Runners session shortly after the 23 hour flight when I arrived from the UK. Sadly I don't remember much (probably the jetlag) but I clearly enjoyed it!
- We have shared a few workouts together, what makes you keep coming back?
Because it’s super fun and a great way to exercise. I may also be a bit lazy and perhaps need the motivation to get out of bed in the morning and FAT helps with that :)
- What would you say to someone hesitating to come to FAT?
Super friendly and a great way to meet people!
- Do you have a most memorable moment with us?
Nothing is as motivating or inspirational as Kevin shouting “Faster! Faster!” in his French accent.
- Outside of our weekly session, what is your relationship with exercise/movement?
I would describe myself as quite active and do quite a lot of sports. Running, squash, golf mainly! Also used to play something called Korfball which you’ve probably never heard of but you should definitely give it a go if you get the chance.
Have also enjoyed getting out and doing some great hikes since I arrived - the scenery/landscape/outdoors here is incredible. Also amazing to see the sea as blue rather than a stormy grey!
- Any movement goals in 2024?
I’m doing the Auckland Half in a couple of weeks time. Haven't done many half’s but my PB is just over 1:30 so hoping to get close to that.
