Meet Marie, our little frenchie and FAT morning sunshine.
Everyone say, Bonjour to Marie. If you’ve come to FAT over the last few months, you will have seen her smile and work hard personality.
Whether its in her hospitality job or during the workout, Marie will always make you feel welcome and share a good time, that’s why we love her!
Can you tell a little bit about yourself?
Originally from Toulouse - France, Aotearoa become my second home. The culture, lifestyle but more importantly the people, change me for the better. Family and friends are my roots. You can find me drinking a beautiful wine with them.
Besides beeing one of the friendly faces working at Hotel Ponsonby, I’ve just graduated from Otago University in Peace and Conflict Studies and, it feels like a dream come true.
How did you hear about FAT, do you remember your first session?
I heard about FAT from Kevin. Lucky enough it all started as a challenge from Kevin and a friend at party after the last lockdown. I am not gonna lie the first session felt like a bus hit me, but wow it felt so good and was the click to embrace change.
We have shared a few workouts together, what makes you keep coming back?
I reckon the infinite energy of Sam and Kevin during the sessions. No way you can get away without pushing yourself. During the session, you surrender to the present moment with connecting your mind to your body.
What would you say to someone hesitating to come to FAT?
Do not! FAT is all about a community workout and pushing yourself, but you are not alone, we are all TOGETHER. It really connects you to other people. Put aside work or whatever is bothering you that day. Focus on the moment, sweat and enjoy!
Do you have a most memorable moment with us?
The FAT Fridays are always the most fun session. It is so nice to see that everyone is enjoying a coffee and a chat after the session. Every FAT Fridays is a way to meet other people.
Outside of our weekly session, what is your relationship with exercise/movement?
Outside of FAT, I am not doing any other formal workout. I grew up walking most of the time. So the same happen here in Auckland, I walk a lot. Also, I work in Hospitality and spend all day on my feet running about. It really keeps me active and dynamic.
What are your health, life goals in 2022?
I believe it is alright to go into 2022 without goals. By putting standards and expectations, we set too much pressure on ourselves. So let’s start treating ourselves better - 2021 was an absurde year. Whatever brings you joy, do that and don’t seek validation from anyone.
Could you tell us 3 pieces of advice you would give to someone on their mental and/or physical health?
To be honest - from someone dealing with some mental health issues - I would say that it is important to stop holding back. Take time to reflect and focus on the solutions to heal. Talk to the people you love and stop to think that you preserve them with your silence. But most importantly as I said previously, treat yourself better - love and rest lead the way to hapiness and forgiveness.
